On a 335i, the garage made a mistake whist changing the radiator and left a transmission fluid line not connected properly. The next day I have a heavy fluid leak outside my house. They collected the car on a flatbed and repaired the fault.

Initially they'd thought it was engine oil and only realised it was transmission fluid on the test drive after re-connecting the line and changing the oil. A transmission fault message appeared and that was when the penny dropped. So they topped up the fluid and all seemed well.

However, as soon as I collected the car I noticed that the gear shift wasn't right. Particularly between 3rd and 4th the engine revs rise during the shift and the car lurches forwards. After driving for a long period it settles down but returns on every drive.

I did go straight back and tell them about it and we agreed we would see if it settles down but it's been a couple of days now with a long trip in between and it's still the same. Obviously I'll take it back to them but if there's anything I can do to help them diagnose the issue it will make life easier for all.

So, any clues?

Maybe the wrong oil has been added or the level set wrong.

Wow that isn't good. These gearboxes take a special type of transmission fluid that is more in-common with transformer oil than ordinary transmission fluid as the electronics are inside the transmission. ZF or equivilent should ONLY be used otherwise it can ruin the transmission! Ask the garage what they put in there.
There is a very involved process in changing the transmission fluid and setting the level.
At the end of the day it is their mistake and they are liable.
