BMW UK don't let any dealerships make any kind of deal at all on any i-car? Is that right? Seems a bit ridiculous, the arrogance that they know people will buy them. I love the i3, and we really want an i3s, but can't get over the feeling that we're kneeling down in front of them and giving them a favour.

That's also aside from the frankly insulting p/x offers we've had on the 335, despite one of the dealerships being the one that service the thing! I understand an 11 year old car doesn't fit on a BMW main dealer forecourt, but I expected some kind of acceptance of the true value, not just the book price. Very frustrating situation.

Yep no deals on i products.

Sell your car privately. They will bid you trade money for the car because when they own it and it goes through an auction, they will be bid trade money on it too!

Go on, how much have they offered you?

£5,720 from Renault (yes, we considered a Zoe), initial BMW price was £5,250, which went up to £5,750 when I complained (about customer service, p/x was secondary). WeBuyAnyCar offer is £6,000.
I do get it, I know the reasons, it's just frustrating as any dealer that puts it up for sale would sell it for £10k - actual sale price not screen price. So they're in for like £8k at least. I should get £8k for it privately, we'd probably take 7.5. Can't really swallow a £2k loss for the ease of driving in with one car and driving out with another.

That is just the way it is though. Most main dealers wouldn't (or couldn't due to warranty restrictions etc) sell the car at the age it is, so they give you a trade bid because that's where it will go. Unfortunately your only way to get more money is to sell it privately as you mentioned.

I think that’s pretty good tbf .. more than I would be expecting for an 11 year old mass market BMW with a huge uneconomical and high tax petrol engine

I just looked on autotrader .. there are 18 335i’s on there .. there is one at a dealer at £9k (touring) and most are between £4.5-£7k

There are only two saloons ( most are coupes) the only one comparable is at a dealer for £7k

I think getting offered £6k for it trade is a result

Are you looking at M-Sports? Lower specs go for a lot less, surprisingly so.

I think BMWs margins on i models are tighter so the cars are competitively priced from the start.

It must also be reassuring as a buyer knowing that you’re not gonna be losing £££ in your new car randomly because bmw are suddenly offering 10% off deals etc.

On trade in, don’t BCA own WBAC, and most people/places now use WBAC as a value floor?
BCA would seem to control a great deal of the used car values and the margins taken by all involved.

Going private sale is the only way to starve the monster!

The next issue is whether or when the 120Ah version is likely to be released. Knowing my luck it'll be 1 month after I pick up my new one.

All the ones on autotrader .. there are only 18 saloon, coupe and touring

It was a niche car when new .. now it’s nearly 12 years old, does 20mpg and costs £540 to tax I reckon the market for them is even more niche

I bet there aren’t many people in the market for them now

I’d take the money and run .. it’s nothing special just an old and very expensive to run saloon car and as much as you love it you have to be realistic

If you really don’t think you can trade it for £6k your only alternative is to advertise it privately for what you want for it

But, bear in mind any prospective purchasers will probably run it through WBAC and offer you £6k anyway .. if you’re lucky
