Hi all

I am thinking of taking my company car allowance and buying a used 530d MSport+ on a 17 plate with 8,000 miles for around 34k

I would plan to keep the car for 2 years and would expect it to lose 10k over that period (and 40,000 additional miles) i.e. worth 24k in September 2020

I know no ones got a crystal ball however is that a reasonable amount of depreciation to expect?

15 plate saloons selling on Autotrader with 45k roughly for about £21k so a little more depreciation than you expect.

I think buying a car like this so new and only owning for a short period is a bit mad, surely it makes sense to buy it and keep it a lot longer so that the savage depreciation of the first 2-3 years is balanced out by a few years of flattening off

Or buying an older higher spec car for a lot less that has already dropped 70% of its value, even with a few expensive repairs it's still going to work out cheaper than losing £500+ a month in depreciation

Seems like buying a newish one is worst of both worlds to me

Good point - the reason I was thinking of selling within 2 years was due to warranty and to make sure the miles didn’t go sky high
But having though yes it probably makes sense to go for at least 1 more year of depreciation..

Is a 17 plate a G30? Or older F10?

I was offered one of the G31 deals a few weeks back at £429 down and £429 a month over 48 months with £13k balloon.

That was a brand new 530d M-Sport Touring.

It was 10k miles a year, and I do 20k, but I knew that in 47 months time it would be easily worth £13500 still.

That was BMW finance with contribution (hmmm, discount) of £13000 and then 0% APR.

The deal was running till the end of July, not sure if there is a new one for August but worth looking.

The deal was £429 for the 520d and £449 for the 530d, but Inchape and Peter Vardy I think too, were offering £20 less in both.

So look carefully as deals are to be had.

It would be worth about 18k after 2 years and 50k miles.
