Placed a deposit on one recently and pick it up next week.

This will be my 3rd straight 6 of this ilk and the previous 2 have always had an issue with the thermostats and not getting up to temp and thus killing economy. Is this the same deal?

Looking forward to it, anyone on here an owner and can share some real life tips, tricks or advice?

It has some cool options and apparently an ex launch car. Has HUD, rear wheel steer, adaptive lights, dynamic drive etc.

Check if it is loosing coolant, if it is then chances are the EGR cooler is fecked (and potentially could lead to the inlet manifold melting). Ideally also check for any timing chain rattles from the back of the engine.

If it is all okay then give it decent interim services beyond BMW's usual and it should be fine. Until there is a day or time the timing chain begins rattling, there have been some bottom end failures (from memory on the N57's as well).

Most 'stats on cars only last around 5 years or so, considering how important they are now they should be a service part imho.

These seem like amazing value for money. Only didn't get one because there were no good petrols in budget for us.

They are apparently good with reliability, people on here claim mondeo servicing prices when using independents.

Costs are fine, just bear in mind that this is a £60-70k car when new, and the servicing costs for a car of this value do not change. I can verify this with the costs of servicing on the X5, think I put them down in the reader's car thread. To be honest, I think the X5 costs more to run anyway!

It's currently in the drive. It's enormous and it's beautiful.

I failed to notice that i couldn't stream spotify from my phone though via bluetooth. Any solutions?

Oh, and it's thirsty as hell. I told the wife it would be "as economical as the focus i traded in"... Hilarious.

Depending on model year, some had the combox. That has bluetooth streaming, there is a retrofit option but you might lose a feature such as the CD changer, not too sure about that. As its a 7 series, it likely has the Audio Interface option, which is the USB and Aux input next to each other in the centre console. BMW sell a cable which interlinks those into one, and it goes into your phone. It will load music from the 'Music' app on the iPhone, which therefore includes Apple Music for me, but it all depends on how you get music. These cars also have a jukebox which can be loaded with music from a USB stick, which the car keeps.

730d should be quite good. Our X5 gets about 23-24mpg combined. Think it gets 30mpg on the motorway when going slow, but the 35d engine isn't designed for going slow wink. A relative of ours has a 635d and that combined gets 39.9mpg, and reaches 47-50mpg on the motorway. It also gets 500 miles from a 70l tank (the X5 gets 480-500 from 100L). Yours shouldn't really be that thirsty, but it definitely would be much more thirsty than the focus biggrin

I had a 530d GT which is basically a 7 Hatch.

It averaged around 34mpg over 30k miles.

Worse tank of only round town was about 29mpg, best tank was around 38mpg.
