Hello all,

First time starting a post in here, apologies if not suitable but would appreciate the help.

My dream car is an E92 M3 in white. I have found this one for sale at Sytner bmw which i have put a refundable deposit down on pending test drive and seeing the condition. It comes with FSH etc and i like the spec on it. Does anyone in here know the history of this car (maybe they or a friend owned it previously). Appreciate any help. Thanks!

They sent me a video and they aren’t due for another 13k miles but will be sure to check. Any other things to look out for and check? Thanks

I don't know anything about that specific car, the price seems ok I suppose, but bear in mind you could probably get newer competition pack car if you were prepared to buy privately, for very similar money.

Check tyres/brakes/service history and schedule yourself and look for any issues. Check for condition of paintwork, look at whether there are any issues with lacquer peel on the roof, check how many owners / who has owned it (there were loads of ex track cars in white that I think got sold through Syntner, not that anything suggests this could be one of them).

Push hard for money off or free servicing etc., and get them to thrown in a 2nd year of AUC warranty for free.

"BMW M3 V8 UK Owners Club" on facebook, someone asked on Sat if £22k was a reasonable asking price for his 2012 competition pack car, 57k miles, mineral white, 2 previous owners.

Well, it's been on sale since June at the same price, so I reckon you could get a deal ; I concur with whoever said get 2nd years warranty.

You can see some of its sale history here, three other examples, so it's been through a few owners.

Not besmirching Sytner Oldbury, I actually dealt with them once and they were sound, but check thoroughly it really does have FSH as , with these cars being 5-6 years out of production, some newer sales execs. generally don't know much about them. I was nearly sold a AUC M3 that had missing service bit (I realized) and a friend was nearly sold one which had gone 30k without a stamp!!

Thanks all for reply. Yeah I did see that it has had fair few owners, is that something to be concerned about?
They are giving me a full 12 month bmw warranty with it, road tax and 4 year gap for the price of 3.
Had it’s run in service and fsh from bmw according to salesman on the phone...

It's had 7 previous keepers, according to the check I ran; that's 7 to the current so you'd be number 9.

For me, that's too much. I would worry some of those merely had it for a short time, ragged it about, never cared for maintenance cos they were going to pass it on.

All AUC cars have 12 months warranty, road tax paid is a little bonus, but are you going to keep it for 4 years? BMW GAP is good for old cars (I have it) but that's only cos I couldn't find a competitor willing to cover me wink

Might be worth checking with a respectable company like ALA and see what they'd cover you for, then saying to BMW you want the 2nd year's warranty instead. Much better value.

If you can't get 2nd year's warranty, then look at private sale cars and see what buying your own BMW warranty would cost?

It's had 3 private plates. Let me know if you want them, cos sometimes you can google these and they tell a story.

Yeah well that’s now what I’m wondering too. Wanting to see the book and check the actual service history. Maybe it’s better going an enthusiast car who’s had it for longer?
Yeah if you can send me them, how do you go about checking them though? Thanks

It's been on E5TYS
MC03UPE

(couldn't find these presently on any car)

and BM55 STU which is on a 2015 M3

You can try a google search, putting these plates with various M3 related search strings. I've done that once and found facebook videos of car being tracked, or burn outs for example. Not saying these M3s aren't meant to be driven hard, but the person in their ad made the point it was driven mostly motorway and denied track use (never trust a liar) and the other person did the burn out the night before the MOT was due, unsurprisingly car failed, what a muppet wink

You could also ask anyone on M3cutters the dedicated M3 forum to see if they know the car, the private plates may help?

  • Also why don't you ask Sytner to send you photos of the service book. Post them up here and I'm sure the collective pistonhead crew can give it the once over and see if it all stacks up?

It might be the pictures, I'm looking on the AUC site, but is the exhaust stock? The tail pipes looked a little different to me. I guess you'll know if you've had a CITNOW video.

This one struck me as similar?
5 previous keepers.

From the video it looked and sounded normal ticking away... I have seen that one you’ve shared but not a fan of those wheels...

Neither of those have the Harmon Kardon sound upgrade so if music is important then I'd factor that in. They both appear to have the same wheels to me though?

Edit my mistake, they are ever so slightly different.

Yeah that’s not a deal breaker for me. The salesman is sending me pictures of service book tomorrow so will post once I have it.
Am I right in saying for the 12 month bmw warranty it gets a 130 point check that they need to do first that should spot and hopefully clear anything?

Here's the link to the M3 cutters site.

http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/index.php

Ask on here as said before. The car may well be known.
I'd ask to see all the work done on the car by BMW.
They can pull all this information. Could be interesting .
I'd definitely want a 2 year warranty with the car.
The BMW warranty is quite expensive but is the best for these cars.
I pay £80 a month for the comprehensive cover which covers everything
Also check the tyres. Hopefully they are Michelin with plenty of tread.

Salesman said full bmw service history. However when I asked about running in he said it’s definitely been done as it’s required for the warranty but wasn’t sure if it was reflected in the book hence why I’ve asked for pictures. Surely it must be reflected in there?
Tyres have 4-5mm all round
As for m3 cutters I put in my email etc and it’s flagged me as being a “scammer” really unsure why so I’ve emailed asking to look into this so I can post in there too...

Edit: car is about 250 miles away hence why can’t just pop in and look straight away I’m doing it all over phone just now

The first service should be in the book but not always.
If it's not shown you can see if it's been done by BMW pulling all work done on the car.
Mine had been missed off. I have a great relationship with my dealer and and now have a printout of when and where completed, plus all other work done on the car. I alsoI rang the dealer who performed the first service and they confirmed it was done. Gave me the date and mileage.

I seem to recall , joining m3cutters can be a b””ll ache. So worth chasing up. It’s the plate that’s on a M3 now which might give you the most likelihood of a hit.

You’re correct on AUC checks , I have always asked to see the AUC checks report ; that!scevidrnve of they’re inspection and work done . But realistically , they do cherry pick and part exes they take in which need too much work go to auction . So it shouldn’t be too far off where it’s at now.

Nothing wrong with getting a service book stamped retrospectively but they need full history to sell it as a AUC so they shouldn’t be selling one with a book without all stamps.

One dealer tried it with me , when sale was pulled as the dealer who did service had ceased trading since, I complained and got compensation for my wasted journey wink

  • * I’m sure the dealer would change the wheels , I’ve had that offered to me.

There is plenty of AUC cars being sold without a full history.

The most expensive Z4M on Autotrader missed the run in service according to the previous owner on here. The run in service has been retrospectively added.

One of the other Sytner branches tried to fudge an AUC report to catch me out.
