Just put my 2001 525i into the local indie for an Inspection 1 service.
When it came out I found the cruise control function had a fault: when the footbrake is applied the cc system is switched off completely and will not re-engage, meaning when I start the car I can switch cc on but when I press the footbrake to go into Drive the green light goes out and stays out.
The garage tell me the squib (?) has gone but a component failure seems a bit unlikely on the face of it.
Any thoughts?
Garage quote £160 for part & fitting...
Cheers
Tony

Have you had the error codes read out - inpa or any odb2 readers?

Have you checked your brake lights? If one has failed, then cruise control thinks your brakes are on all the time and won't re-engage.

Hi Raffles
Brakes on will disengage the throttle but the cc system should remain open for re-engagement.
I'm off to see a pal with a code reader on Wednesday to see what we can find.
Thanks
Tony

Turns out the planks in the workshop had left a connector flapping about in the engine bay!
Oh well, that saved me £160, and it's another indie I'll have to cross of my list of useful local garages.....
