Has anyone used Dervtech in Manchester ?

They seem to offer reasonable cash vs what you get.

The switchable map is one i am interested in, so it would switch dependent on driving mode slelcted Eco Pro comfort sport etc.

Any F series 35d people had this done as i believe engine is same?

Thanks dez.

Never heard of the ones mentioned.

It is not so much the engine (although the N57 does have some issues inherent across the N57 "family" (and not the wider N series family)), but gearbox.

There is literally only 50Nm of safety buffer in the rating of the 8HP (8HP70) version installed in the 640D's (700Nm being the "rated" limit, the newer version installed in the G series cars is 750Nm). Problem is nearly all the maps I have seen have exceeded that figure of 700 Nm.

I am not saying that they won't take the 700Nm+ we see in many maps of the 640D (and other models installed with this engine), but you are more likely to run into issues by exceeding that rating.

Furthermore, I suppose I should mention any potential N57 issues like the EGR system (usually the EGR Cooler failing and loosing coolant as opposed to the valve being stuck in the open position) if left then that is the inlet manifold gone bye bye if it melts, timing chain (whilst the N47 issues are wider spread the components across the N47/57 and newer B47 and 57 in some areas are very much shared for example some of guides, tensioners, oil sprayer and actual physical timing chain) and unfortunately some N57 bottom ends have failed.

But ultimately I do not know many of failures following remap, but it is worth understanding the risks and these cars are not cheap if issues arise and chances are BMW would wash their hands of you in relation to goodwill and warranties. But you take your choice (although the level of remapping in general seems to have increased hugely in recent years).

Thanks for the reply.

The risk of wear part doesn't bother me to much tbh. i did 120k with a remapped E92 335d with no major engine or gearbox issues.

The box 8 speed is sill torque converter and i have seen mixed reports but never anyone saying they have failed.

The standard car is like you said pretty close to limit already so i would thing 700 NM limit very conservative.

Do it!

I've had by 2008 535D remapped and its a totally different animal now! I would recommend Unicorn Remap if you are looking in Manchester though, guy called Rick is the man for remaps on these engines, look him up you won't regret it!

I've been thinking about a remap for a while for my 2016 520d F10.
DervTech does seem favourable but also read about Unicorn then came across The Vehicle Tuner in Warrington confused
More BMW specific tuners are BWchiptune but are London way or Emaps who comes to you but no rolling road.
Not sure about the switchable maps, Id be happy if i could leave it in Sport mode all the time but that needs selecting each switch on, same would be for you map then.
Same as switching the stop/start off each engine start, even though I've coded that out now.

i had e92 335d with a remap that was from angel tuning near banbury.
Dervtech just keep coming up online a well as DMS(£700), guess i would just like somone who has had one of the modern 35d/40d engines tuned and thinks its worked well etc.
