Hello Mates,

I own a 2012 320d sport.the problem is i can hear a clunking metal sound whenever the car fall in potholes or bumps. Not every time ,however. No problems in motor ways or in good roads.

Tyre is run flat tyres. However i feel those are bit stiff than normal tyres.car has only driven 35000 miles as of today.

have taken to a local BMW specialist where they failed to diagnose the problem

kindly help if someone has got any clue.

Many thanks

I'd be looking at the drop links or top mounts straight away

If the 'specialist' that you've been to see can't see anything wrong; take it to another to have them look at all the suspension arms/bushes, the top mounts, the springs for any breaks, the dampers for any damage/leaks and have the engine mounts looked at too

Not common, but not unknown, the subframe bolts can come loose too, so have those checked as well

Start cheap (drop links) and work from there

However; if you're sure it's metal on metal, look at exhaust/cat heat shields and brake disc shields too; could have come loose/bolts rusted or a stone trapped maybe
