I wonder if anyone on here knows much about TPMS.

I have a set of winter wheels/tyres to fit to my car and they have had some BMW TPMS valves fitted. I suspect that the car will need to be programmed to recognise them as they are different from the ones it is used to "seeing" on the summer wheels/tyres.

Does anyone know if this is a dealer only task or can it be done by buying a programming cable like the ones you can get off eBay?

Provided they're the same type and frequency, they should get picked up when you change the wheels over - You'll just need to reset TPMS iDrive reading.

As said as long as the frequency is the same you just need to hit the reset in Idrive.

Mine change between Summer and Winter absolutely fine (all bought from BMW though). During the reset do not expect them to be recognised immediately (like when you do a "normal" reset), but after a few miles at different speeds they will be recognised without issue (and no they won't try and connect to the ones that are in the vehicle if they are there).

It always seems to take longer than I remember, but has never failed me.

This. If they’re compatible the car should recognise them.
