Thought I run try and eek as much range as I can from my 2012 E91 318d, so filled up last Wednesday to start off my hyper-miling challenge smile

Eventually had to come in last night, brimmed the tank again tank @ 59.298 Litres - I think these cars hold around 60/61L so i was pretty close, still said 35 miles on OBC....

So I achieved 810 miles!, ran through Fuelly app, = 62.10 MPG

...so question is, who has beaten that, I am quite chuffed with that if I am going to be honest.

p.s (That is with roof bars and winter tyres - so not exactly aero dynamic or eco tyres)

I couldn't beat that due to my combination of 3 litre Straight 6 and BMW's insistence that a Zippo was big enough for a fuel tank, but I did manage 41.5 MPG over 135 miles coming back from Essex a couple of weeks ago. That was to the bottom of the Toll Road, so it may have gone down after that (smile), but still finished at 39.7. Used just over a quarter of a tank, expected range then was a further 450 miles, so 610 in total!

Very impressive, but it must have been so boring! laugh

I often did over 600 on 1 tank in my E46 320td, but could only get to about 500 with my slightly more economical 123d because it only had a 55 litre tank!

I think the OP might have won.

just wait till the insignia owners pop their heads in,

1000 miles per tank range on them.

If you guys are going by the figure on the dash read-out, you are wrong. You need to do a brim to brim test like DailyHack did, it is the only reliable way to calculate fuel consumption Those dash computers are always wrong, in my case I find that the actual consumption is always worse than the figure on the dash by about 2 to 3 MPG.

I have cross referenced mine by brim checking, it was within 0.5mpg accurate and not always worse, so I'm happy enough to trust it.

Best I have had is about 450 out of a tank. Can't really complain at that, but more it's more like 320-350 normally.

Fuelly App is good for proper readings, use to be abit flakey and too biased towards US, but its quite good now - a good gauge of MPG (if your arsed) smile

I could of got 900 realistically, but I didn't fancy running dry - got big one down to Cornwall from Cheshire in few weeks, so i am aiming for 900 on this tank smile

Ah, yes, I remember this with the 3 Series I had...

Travelling to Newcastle and back (600 miles for me) at 70mph with at least 100 miles remaining once home. These 4 cylinder diesels are very impressive in this regard.

810 miles is particularly good.

I'm now pleased if I do the same journey on only 2 tanks.

Yeah the 4 cylinders have a bad wrap sometimes, but its economy is pretty remarkable - Its coming up to 100k now, so its loosening up nicely smile

Now my AC has blown up, I am regularly getting 700 miles to the tank before fill up on my 2004 Passat with 210k. 62 litre tanks

Most of my BMWs would do 300-500 miles. The highest was my 1994 525i Touring Manila which did 550 miles with its 80 litre tank.

130i

Driving like a nun i'm getting 36mpg on obc, 35mpg real.

Around 340 miles on a tank without going into reserve too much

Jealous! Though the engine sounds lovely

Same here! My Z4 Coupe has the same engine (which sounds even better with a custom cat-back exhaust) and the same miserly 55 litre tank size. frown

I did manage 360 miles once on a busy motorway run.

But my E91 325i with the 2.5 litre N52 engine has done over 450 miles a couple of times because the tank is 63 litres! (Shame you can't really hear it though). laugh

i have to commute from the Midlands to Manchester and back quite a lot. If I don't catch much traffic and can travel up the M5/M6 at 70mph then I can just get there and back three times in my 08 plate 330d on one tank, 580 miles.

Thought I would revive this somewhat...

I am traveling down to Florence this morning (same 318d E91) from Cheshire, so the plan is to see how far I can get...stopping over in Chamonix Saturday night, catching 5am train tomorrow morning.

So, with the combination of smooth french toll roads and cruise control literally all the way - 874 miles in total door to hotel, so let's see smile

Car is somewhat heavier this time round, blame Mrs Dailyhack for her clobber in the boot...

Good effort that. I can barely do 500 in my 330i touring. The stuck thermostat has been worse for economy recently too. The 4 cylinder diesels are incredibly efficient on a run, I borrowed a friends old 320td a few years ago and could do 65 to the gallon if I wasn't too heavy with the right boot.

My old 530d would do great range too. 800+ miles was possible on a run, did Newbury to Newcastle and back with a third of a tank remaining. I only have an image of 640 miles with 106 left. That was more in town driving though. Still impressive.

47mpg from an F25 X3 30D with 4 people. I had no radio and sleeping passengers so I played the mpg game!

Arrived in Ashford now, 274miles done, range is showing 750miles left (obc showing 85mpg..debatable, cruise set to 65mph'ish all the way down, boring as but I'm not in a rush...so far so good) smile not even broke past 1/4 of a tank yet!

Calais > Chamonix tomorrow morning, see how we get on...I am feeling confident.
