Hi all,
So my bmw 320d had a really bad whining noise, used to occur on start up and when I accelerate over about 2k, there is no power loss as the car pulls great and no smoke etc, I did change the turbo thinking that might be the issue but it still continued, Googling further I seen that it could possibly be the crankshaft gasket or maybe the valve cover gasket I’m not 100% sure at all, I really don’t want to be throwing money at it without actually knowing what it could be,
Also when the engine was running we took the cap off and it started throwing oil out, made a bit of a mess was wondering is that’s normal?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a similar noise with mine. Did you ever get to the bottom of what was causing it?

So everyone I asked said that it was the turbo I changed it using a second hand one and made the exact same noise, unless it was a faulty turbo I’m not sure but I remember reading up that it could have been the crank case breather, hope that helps
