I’ve had my battery disconnected on my 98 328i this evening and when I reconnected it the siren inside the car is blaring and won’t go off.

Car starts absolutely fine. Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting a few more times and still get the same.

Any ideas?

Was the car unlocked when you reconnected the battery? If I remember my E38 was similar, had to ensure the car was fully unlocked when I disconnected/reconnected the battery.

Is your battery fully charged and in good condition?

The alarm on my E46 kept going off and I was advised to buy a new battery, which cured this.

There is a second battery somewhere for the alarm, I think ? When my wife's megane was laid up for 18 months I reconnected a charged battery and had a siren go off, which continued for a short time even after I disconnected the main battery. The siren noise got quieter and quieter until it stopped. So i assumed there is a second battery. After I unlocked all the doors and reconnected the main battery it was fine.

Thanks everyone. Turns out it was the gong speaker from the on board computer. Funny thing being that if you turn the front fog lights off the siren stopped making the noise!

I’ve removed it for now as I don’t need an alarm to tell me itd cold outside!
