*Knocking Noise* - BMW 1 Series
Discussion
Hi there.
Not sure if this is in the right section, but my BMW 1 Series (2012 Sport Petrol) has a persistent 'Knocking Noise' when the car is running idle, or driving very slowly.

This doesn't sound healthy at all!?
Thank you.

Ok, firstly, check the oil level.
Secondly, a knocking noise could be: driveshaft, differential, engine crank, auxillary belt pulley. Does it increase in frequency with revs?
our best bet is to get it to a qualified and professional technician who can listen to it in person, up on a ramp, raher than post a sound clip and ask a bunch of internet weirdos

Coupes and Convertibles were built until 2013 with the old E8* body and the N43 of death. Yes, they're junk.
The 3/5 door hatches were the F20 with the N13 BMW/PSA engine as used in the Mini. Only marginally less crap mind.
It could be anything - chain, brake pump, alternator. These have electric water pumps and PAS so only the alternator and AC pump to be driven. Most of these with more then 50k are ready for a new chain anyway.
