Hi guys,

My family circumstances have changed and I need an SUV.

The local garage has some great deals on X5s currently as the new shape is released this week I believe.

Specifically they have a couple of X5 4.0d MSports in with a few extras. I reckon they are a £65k car new. Both 2018 plate, one owner, done 6k and 8k respectively.
Been dropped in price to £47k and £48k.

I will be a big deposit with a loan from the bank to fund the rest. My question is what do we think this car will be worth in 2 years time with around 20k miles on the clock?

Which is when I will look to sell it. If I'm putting a 25k deposit down I really want to get £35k back in 2 years time. when I sell it. Is this feasible do we think?

You should be about fine at £35k. Cheapest AUC car with similar details is about £36k at the moment.
So I would bank on say £32-33k private?

On a seperate note, getting a £20-25k bank loan and putting the same of your own money into an X5 for two years and max 15k miles and losing nigh on £20k for the pleasure is mental IMO.

Yeah I get what you are saying.

I think it will cost around 15k for 2 years. Braced for it potentially be more though.

£1 per mile is still a lot to drive a heavy diesel family barge around....

Bought the Mrs the same car in May. 40d M Sport. Lovely thing to drive, goes well.

We went for their 0% PCP and negotiated new price to under £60k. Don’t like personal PCPs but with a decent discount it made sense.

Our payments over 4years will total approx £35k including the deposit. If we bought cash at £60k then the car would have to be worth >£25k after 4yrs to be better off - I think it will be there abouts (or less), so was happy to use the 0% credit and keep our cash fluid...

I don’t know if they will still be worth that much in 2 years, the new model is hitting show rooms about now, that normally pushes the old model price down significantly once they hit the used market

If only intending to keep for 2 years, I would be looking to get one that's about 12-18 months old, to be in the sweet spot in 2 years time?

As said, 2 years time when coming to sell, there will be 12-18 month old new shape G05 X5's on the forecourts, and that will have an impact on used 2018 reg F15 prices.

There is a 68 plate new model but only a 30D, 250 miles for 90k. You have to be certifiable to throw that sort of coin on what is a premium albeit mid tier SUV.

At 90k it must have just about every single option fitted including individual leather as the base list is 61k and yes you'd need to be minted or mad.

Although I sat in one the other week when I getting a new tyre on the 7 and it's very nice.

How does the X5 interior stack up against a 7? I like the idea of the X7, looks like a contender against the RR.

Of course it better have every boxed ticked. The point stands. This or an M5 comp. I know where the residuals are by a slim margin lol. Just bloody crazy. For that matter an xdrive 760, same age is 85k

I didn't say anything about your point not standing, but 90k is an extreme spec most will be 65k before the 10-15% discount and low rate finance that will be offered at some point. That or an M5 Comp is a moot point as it depends what the buyer wants from the car.

I bought a brand F10 M5 residuals are not something you try discuss once you've experienced them at the sharp end.
