Can anyone help please?
Searched past threads and can't find one specific enough... have a 430d coupe and I need to run it over the winter so naturally with summer tyres on it'll be unusable in bad weather.

I've looked at some mid brands and also budget ( I can't stretch to premium makes unfortunately)... but I do have a spare set of 19s to put them on. I'm lookig at reinforced sidewall only not RF.
Can anyone recommend a cost effective set without compromising too much?
In advance, thanks.

Whats your tyre size? I run Riken Snowtimes (licenced by Michelin) good mid-range I think - I run these all year on my 3 series diesel and are great.

Also, used Avon winter tyres few years back, again these are great.

Purchased from Camskills.

They're 255 35 19 rear, 225 40 19 fronts. Dare say you can alter the size slightly but I'd rather not tinker with dims on the tyres really. I'll look those ones up - I've been looking at Hankook ones and one guy suggested Jinyu but I've never heard of them before!!

Its a no from me on Jinyu! Very cheap budget brand, wouldn't bother with these - plenty of good mid-range brands with more cred than Jizzzy or whatever their called!

Ha agreed! Referred to me by a tyre fitter and said they'd been fitted to a 3er, but haven't seen or heard of anyone with feedback on them

Plenty of feedback regarding Jinyu tyres on tyrereviews.co.uk - they come across as to be fairly good tyres from what’s written

I’ve got Yokohama Advance V905s on my land barge (7 series) and I’m finding them to be very good indeed.

Michelin Alpins are good too, can be pricey though. I know the Nokia’s tyres get good reviews too as do the Nankang tyres.

The others that have got good reviews, but are in the budget range are Petlas Snowmasters, worth having a read into IMO

Tyreleader and Camskill usually come out best in prices too. You just need to have someone fit them for you

I have Blizzaks on the touring, and Alpins on the M4. The Blizzaks are good, the Alpins are on another level.

Go for 225/45 x 18 all round. Those should be suitable and keep the same rolling circumference (but check with tyre label on door or inside fuel filler flap). I would go with a major brand. Continental TS860 come out well.

Personally I'd be looking for a used set of 17 or 18 inch rims with winter tyres already fitted - it'll probably cost less than a set of 19" winter tyres whatever brand you buy, and you could still sell the spare set of rims to offset some of the cost anyway!

FWIW my 3 Series was fitted with Bridgestone Blizzak winter run-flats when I bought it in February and it didn't have a problem with the Beast from the East.

Agree. My 17" winters are knackered as a result of all the potholes that open up over winter - I'd avoid using the 19s which are more likely to crack and go for a smaller used wheel so you can have a bigger sidewall.

I've just replaced two tyres and was unable to find anywhere that had Conti TS860 in stock - I think they've sold out as a result of coming at the top of most of the reviews.

I just bought a set of winter wheels, tyres and TPMS valves from mrwinterwheels. Excellent service - they turned up the next day.

They're 18" instead of the OEM 19's, but they sit fine over the M Sport Plus Pack brake calipers.

BMW advise using 225/40/18 for winter on these, so got 4 X Goodyear Ultragrip winter tyres packaged in, and 4 X BMW TPMS valves at the same time.

Came to just under £1200, but well worth it as I've now got a second set of alloys I can swap out to over winter.

Yes, 18” is the smallest rims that will fit over M sport calipers. Even if you don’t have M sport calipers, it may still be worth getting 18” wheels, so that if you later want to up-size the discs, you don’t have to up-size the wheels.

Were there any issues getting the car to recognise the TPM valves?

Nope, it picked them up within a few miles with no issues.

I think they all broadcast on a fixed frequency so the TPMS system picks them up with no intervention needed.

OP, you live in Durham, not Anchorage. So unless you’re running Cup2s, avoid driving like you’re in Barca* and you’ll be fine.
