X5 E70 advice on winter tyres
Discussion
Hi,
I've got a 2013 X5 M Sport 3.0d and need to get some winter tyres as I'm spending the winter in the alps and the 20" rims and tyres I have now are just plain scary in the snow. I've been looking on ebay found three options and would appreciate any advice please. The options are:
19" rims with 255/50R19 tyres
18" rims with 255/55R18 tyres
17" rims with 235/65R17 tyres
All are on genuine BMW alloys rims and all around the same price.
Also, I presume all X5's have the same mounting and bolts but it would be great if someone could confirm this please.
Thanks

With respect to sizes it is quite normal with winter tyres to go down a rim diameter or 2 & up on the profile to match the overall diameter while also going down a width.
Based on that I personally would look more at 245s in an 18" size to see what is available.
Those may not fit in with tyre sizes and that could be why you have the options that you mention.
With respect to fitment issues google is your friend, and there are many, many 100s of sites that can tell you any differences.
willtheyfit and tyresizecalculator are just 2 that spring to mind.

It is better to go with the smallest wheel / narrowest tire combo for winters - more comfort, better traction on wet/snow, cheaper.
This site says 18" are the smallest possible , so 17" are out : https://www.wheel-size.com/size/bmw/x5/2013/#trim-...
255/55R18 8.5Jx18 ET46 5x120
Maybe check your user manual to confirm it.
