E60 535d Servicing
Discussion
Hi,
Looking to service my E60 535d and take advantage of Eurocar Parts 50% off xmas sale on service items.
Car is on 153K miles, last service was basic at approx. 140K miles (previous owner). I have all the service history etc at home but looking to see what else I should think about doing other than just the basic engine oil and filters? What type of coolant is required and should I just change the glow plugs for the sake of it as it's half price and the car is high miles?
Cheers

Thermostats are a known weakness on the engine, call up the hidden menu & see if you’re upto temperature (88-92 IIRC). If not, they’re worth doing. (Bear in mind you might need to go for a 10+ mile drive at this time of year to get fully up to temperature).
Don’t buy cheap pattern parts though... not worth it.
When was your brake fluid last checked/changed?
Lots of vaccum pipes for the turbo. etc on the engine, they’re rubber & perish &split over time. Rubber hose is relatively cheap.
I’m sure there’s other bits, but those are just off the top of my head.

I'd just test the coolant with a hydrometer. I do always have the fuel filter changed each year now though, personally I wouldn't bother doing anything other than what's required,.
We still have one as part of the fleet, on 117k. Only had service parts and anything that needs fixing - vacuum hoses, plastic intake thing, thermostats etc.

The brake fluid level is fine, but I will be bleeding it and replacing anyway. I have a fuel filter in my basket already. Thanks for the info on thermostat and rubber lines. I think I'll buy now and do it as a preventative measure. Is this the actual thermostat or 'EGR thermostat'?

Both. If you go into the hidden menu, temperature (tutorial on youtube). If temps are okay, there's no need to do them either.https://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f15/e60-e61-5...
