Evening,

Can anyone tell me how many miles you get to a full tank on a 2018 BMW 318D touring auto, I do roughly 50 miles return trip a day to work which is a mix of motorway and city driving in my current Nissan Qashqai 1.5d and am getting around 500 miles to the tank.

I have heard different things about this car and before I decide whether to buy it, I would love someone who owns one of these to give me some facts and figures on the above, as I've seen mixed reports so am slightly put off.

Any genuine help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

I don't have one, although tank range is pretty irrelevant. What mpg do you currently manage, and what are you expecting or wanting to achieve?

I can get 500 plus from the tank on my 335d. That is a 57 litre tank. Average mpg is 45mpg. You should exceed that, I imagine.

Am currently getting an average of 50mpg in my QQ, so its not to different. I suppose my QQ is working a lot harder on the motorway too.

Also what are the BMW service intervals now think my QQ is 15000..

Also what are the costs involved in servicing these days, the last BMW I had was 10 years ago. I always went to a BMW independent service dealer and I really can't recall costs.

OP, MrsC had a 2014 320d efficient dynamics manual tourer as a company car for just over 2 yrs/45k miles (started on 30k miles) until earlier this year. Her daily commute was a 60 mile round trip and she was seeing low/mid 50s mpg (approx 600 mile range) & the car was on 16 inch std wheels so I'd expect a 318d auto to get pretty close mpg wise, depending on driving style. MrsC doesn't drive slowly btw wink

Mostly rural, a mix of short journeys and longer A road/dual carriageway use.

If you can charge it at home/and or work get an EV, a leaf or something like that if efficiency is your main goal.

I've no 318d Touring experience, but just to compare with the above 320d ED figures, I've done two regular commutes in the last few years in my 320d ED manual:

From June this year to now I do 8 minutes of country lanes, 12 minutes of dual carriageway and 30 minutes of A and B roads. I've averaged about 60/61mpg in summer and 56 in winter.

Prior to June, for four years I did 8 minutes of country lanes followed by 35 minutes of DC and Mway, then 1 minute of 30 limit. For that I averaged about 70/72mpg in summer and 65 in winter.

My ED is running the standard Michelin fuel saver tyres, which I like because they're not that grippy. I have changed the suspension to Birds, which has raised the car a little, worsening its mpg slightly. Everything else is standard. I drive quickly around corners, because I enjoy that, but on straights I stick to the speed limit.

That's very precise.

Impressive figures. Engine warmed up before or starting from cold?

I get very, very bored on my commute hehe Both commutes are/were very predictable due to the lack of traffic. The old one never varied by more than a minute, and my current one by only five minutes. As a consequence, the mpg was very repeatable too.

I have a 318D E91 Touring 2012 (manual) I routinely get 800+ miles out of a tank, and do 67 miles daily, mainly motorway....I have managed nearly 1000 miles on a long run, brilliant for range these cars, interesting point on ED tyres but I run winters all year, doesn't effect my range at all.

I get more now the engine is lovely and "run in" at 102,000, just had a squeeky auxiliary belt changed on it, don't forget to change this, could be diagnosed as a kanckered pulley ££££ - but belt was worn.
