Each to their own I suppose, but if I were going to fit a V8 to an E36, sacrilege as it might to some, I'd shoe-horn in an LS V8 and have some real power! (whether the chassis could take it might be another matter!)

If it had to be a BMW V8 then I'd be looking at an E39 M5 motor.

(Hmmm.... Thinking outside the box, a TVR V8 could be a hoot too!- Great noise!)

Otherwise I'd be thinking of slotting in an E46 M3 straight six into the E36 - Similar power but less weight in the nose.

So long as you're happy though, that's all that really matters! smile

Found one in japan, been looking for years for a clean unmolested one without rust.
after 4 years one showed up. 1 week later an almost identical one popped up too.

Ive let a specialist completely go through both cars, tyres brakes suspension interior ++ .
not much change from 20 grand for both cars...but now they are properly sorted.

I might be persuaded to let one go...

Jesus Christ I had no idea these existed!

That sounds like a recipe for madness! What’s the power output? 300 odd bhp?

says 340 DIN Bhp, and 480 NM torque. last number is the important one though, it hauls from 1000 RPM...

Wow, I'm another that never realised that such a beast existed, what a machine!

^^This is the thing, even the standard M60/62 makes huge torque from nothing, and in this it's breathed on by Alpina. biggrin Coupled with the (relatively) light weight of an e36 it must make for an awesome driving experience, I'm assuming (hoping!) it has an LSD?

Coincidentally a mate of mine has just sold the 4.4 lump out of his written off 540i to someone intending on putting it in an e36.
