X5 two unrelated(?) issues - vibration and locking
Discussion
I have a 57 plate E70, that i have had for 4 months. lovely car which is now on 109k miles.
Upto now its been perfect but i now have encountered two issues in two days:
Driving home new years day and the car and steering wheel start to vibrate, it steadily gets worse so i pull over thinking i have a flat tyre. (tyre pressure monitoring has never worked on this car and i know one tyre has a very slow leak - its on the list to get round to in the new year)
I check all the tyre pressures and they are fine, did notice the drivers side front wheel warmer than passengers front - during this stop baby Buzz fills his nappy and needs a change - so we are probably stopped with engine and ignition off for 30mins. start the car and tentatively pull away to see what happens - nothing - all good so we drive (90mins) home.
Drive to work the next day (2nd) for 50mins and its fine - but half way home it reoccurs, there is only about 10 mins to go so i carry on and i try a few things while driving - there appears to no difference when braking, steering or coasting in neutral, only effected by speed - but again as before, it goes away!
When on the drive again i notice drivers front wheel warmer so am wondering if the brakes are dragging / warped disk? BUT if it were surely it wouldn't go away after a few miles and the vibration would alter with braking??? could a failing wheel bearing be intermittent? (there's no droning noise of a typical bearing issue)
Driven to work again today and all good!
the second issue is that upon leaving work yesterday (2nd) i unlocked the car, saw the indicators flash and the halos, door handle, and interior lights came on but the drivers door was still locked - rear drivers side was unlocked - used the blade key to manually unlock the drivers door and hoped in. but found all the memory settings were wrong/missing - seat and steering wheel position, radio presets. The center console lock/unlock button did nothing -
got home and i could not lock door locks - but the rest worked, the indicators flashed and the alarm was activated (opening the door set it off) - so i closed all the doors by pushing the pins down and set the alarm with the fob.
left it for a bit, while doing some google research on both issues and decided to go check the central locking fuse - but when i walked out to the car, pressed the unlock fob, everything was fine again - doors unlocked, indicators flashed, lights came on, memory functions all back to normal.
i have been unable to fine much info online for either. anyone have any thoughts or experiences?

Re the first issue; I'd say that the caliper is binding/sticking, hence the warmer alloy, so it'll more than likely need swapping out for a refurbished one (Brakes International etc); personally, I'd change both upfront, keeps them a matched pair and also for peace of mind.Upto now its been perfect but i now have encountered two issues in two days:

It could be simply the sliders and they need a good clean and lightly re-greasing, or it could be the piston, which means a full caliper replacement usually, unless you or mechanic are competent at swapping out the seals and piston etc
Re the locking, I really don't know much re the E70s, but the previous X5s were like the E39s and they had ignition barrel issues, but also a slightly duff battery could cause issues like this. So worth getting both checked, just in case
Have you access to a decent code reader, if not, might be worthwhile getting a decent BMW indy or BMW themselves to run diagnostics on the electrics, just in case

Thanks for the reply, i am pretty handy with spanners so had considered giving the calipers a good glean and re-grease of the sliders, still will after finding the heat difference. The thing that is confusing me is that the vibration seemed to come on and seemed unaffected by and braking input that has me questioning it.It could be simply the sliders and they need a good clean and lightly re-greasing, or it could be the piston, which means a full caliper replacement usually, unless you or mechanic are competent at swapping out the seals and piston etc

i have a generic Bluetooth obd reader that shows nothing - but of course it cannot interrogate the main car systems so i'm not surprised. I was looking earlier at getting some diagnostics software and cable for it - bmcables sell the set for about 30 so will get that ordered.
