My other half is changing her car and has decided a small SUV is what she wants next. We want a German car (once I convinced her that the Evoque was not ideal) and have put the X2 at the top of the shopping list, followed by the X1, Merc GLA and Audi Q3. She's moving from an Audi, so the BM / Merc take precedence.

We're off to test drive the X2 on Saturday, and hopefully an X1 also (my preference would be an i3 as the car literally only commutes 60 miles a day and is parked all weekend, but she says it's embarrassing) so I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of the X2 in particular. I like the fact it's a new, bold, design, and few are currently on the road.

Thanks.

Luke.

How on earth is one of the most avant garde cars in the road embarrassing? It's a joy to drive. Looks fantastic. Has a carbon fibre tub. Costs peanuts to run and does 0-30 on par with an M3. Have a word...

Hey, I'm with you and hoping that the dealer will have one in stock also - makes perfect sense for what it'll be used for! Still working on it... Some people just don't get it!

If she wants a small SUV, then sadly, for you, I doubt the i3 will suffice.

I've put 40k miles on a 2017 X1 , FWIW, and despite developing a dislike (I had them as loaners) for pretty much all F generation BMWs in ordinary guise, the X1 has impressed with it's ride and handling. It shares life with a M3 to give context ;I'll be watching out for these i3s racing me from now on wink

X2 should be a little sportier, though personally if going SUV it seems to make sense in having a taller one. Hence I prefer, 1, 3 , 5.
If your test ride doesn't have adaptive dampers, maybe expect a harsher ride on 19s tho not too bad. AD was 150£ when I bought so well worth it.

Wouldn't bother with the X1. Have been given a 68 plate xDrive18dMSport a few times recently as a courtesy car. Gutless and the interior was awful considering they said it was the best loan car they had. Ride wasn't great considering it's a premium badge product. Wafty feel to it but still better than a GLA! i3 makes sense if you can convince her, even though it looks like it came out a cereal packet. If the X2 is big enough that would be my choice.

Isn't the X2 interior same as the 'awful' X1's?

And 3 and 4. Need to jump to a 5 for any increase in premium. A bit of trim here and there helps but not a lot

Thanks for the comments - a mixed bag it seems. Booked in for Sunday to test both X1 and X2 (no i3 in stock but one in showroom). Will see what comes of it. Cheers.
