I've owned my black 66 plate 1 series M Sport for about a year, and I'm quite taken by the black kidney grille on the 2017 onwards M Sport 'Shadow Edition' cars. Obviously not looking to change my car after only a year, because I love it but mainly for financial reasons.

Does anyone know if/how I can get a BMW dealer/bodyshop to fit an OEM black grille on my car? Will they even do it?

Thanks!

Many years ago I changed the kidney grilles on my e39 to black ones.
I bought some aftermarket ones and they fitted really easily as the old one just unclipped from behind and the new ones clipped in.
A quick look on eBay shows black grilles for your car and the fitting looks remarkably similar to my old BMW.

It's an easy retrofit and I think they're available officially from main dealers too. My old White M135i had them, definitely improved the looks!

I think you might find some on Amazon or Ebay.

I bought some black ones for my Z4 Coupe - just had to pull the original ones up at the top and outwards at the bottom then job done!

You’ll find dozens on eBay, all very cheap, I got a set for my 4 series for 20 quid, changed then myself, a bit of a faff and half way through, I gave up, said this isn’t a 1500 pound E46, you’re going to break something! hehe

Anyways in the end I found about 10 videos on YouTube all showing you how so I done it in the end.

I spent £45 on some grills off eBay and £15 on a roll of black gloss 3M wrap. Wrapped the mirrors, fins and installed the grills myself... result below. You should definitely go for it if you want!

The official BMW parts are called M Performance black grilles and cost about £100 undiscounted from a dealer, although you can usually find dealers like this that will discount them, for example here for £75...

Ebay cheap copies are an option but make sure you get ones that come recommended by others as the quality of unbranded Chinese stuff can vary wildly
