SMG Transmission problems !!

Hi I have 2.5i e85 I am trying to figure out best route in order to avoid being ripped off for parts not required & fitted .. I have read various articles on other forums with regards following problem and wonder if anyone can shed light on how difficult to fit replace ment part by a novice mech ,
transmission control sensor/ gear position controller !!

The problem I have is when you park car you are required to leave in gear/park ,When I do this ,If I don’t return within approx 2hrs ,Car locks up gearbox shows trans fault Symbal and won’t allow to select neutral ,to start vehicle ,
If I disconect battery for 24hrs then clear fault code ,I can start drive as normal selecting all gears etc no problems As long as I leave car parked in neutral !!

As anyone whom has experience of these Sequental manual gearboxes will know there is a multitude of parts in these transmissions each part variant in price from £200 -£500 a pop
Plus some unscrupulous garages suggest new gearbox at £1;000 to £2;000
Which after all could be something as simple as a corroded electrical connection (common fault) I just can’t get my head around that car drives fine if left in neutral ,with no warnings ,yet as soon as set to park and leave for 24hrs problem returns ?

Whereabouts are you? I think a well respected BM independant garage will be your best bet tbh, at least you can get a few opinions and you’re not stuck where you can’t easily get the car to them.

Your gearbox sound fine. Sounds more like a battery issue. First thing an SMG car does when you unlock the doors is prime the hydraulic accumulator so that there pressure in the system to allow the car to make shifts. If you battery does not have the power to do this initial priming that could be your issue.
