Hi PH collective,

used to be a regular here for many years but not recently :-(
need some advice for my daily. I have a G31 530d xdrive touring which needs new tyres soon. Came from factory on Michelins, and whilst the mechanical grip from the xdrive is impressive, ive never been amazed by the Michelins, often the transmission sorting the grip rather than the tyres. Previous F31 had Pirellis and seemed much better grip levels but was only 2wd

criteria is, its a mile muncher, mixed motoroway, A road and B roads, gets the occasionally bit of welly when the occasion arises, but they need to be reasonable wear rate (original set lasted 20k), no semi slicks and 3k longevity! Oh and must be runflats, CBA with flat tyres or AA recovery ;-)

cheers in advance
Craig

Not sure about the G31. but general advice with xDrive models is to stick with star marked only (BMW approved). Causes havoc in X5's, can mess up transfer boxes, makes unusual noise from gearbox. But, that is for a car that has been around for a very long time, G31 is too new to know whether using non star marked will cause issues or not.

That aside, many brands out there. Think Goodyear asymmetrics are made for this car, not too sure, but heard many good things about them. Pirellis are generally the most expensive ones, but likely best for grip.

My F30 335d xdrive has Pirelli P Zeros, 225/40-19 and 255/35-19. The grip has been pretty good, well in fact never lost grip whether braking or traction or lateral. Mine are getting low at 25k miles, and I shall buy the same again, I have used them all year round.
Edited to add: these are star-marked tyres.

Not using * marked on any BMW I was told the other day (by BMW) will affect warranty, albeit for a relevant claim.
Both Michelin and Pirelli also advised sticking to * marked.

Thanks, hadn't heard of star marked, so that useful, always fitted OEM to last one, just not overwhelmed with the Michelins.
Had heard that tyre diameters were critical.on xdrive. Will check out the Pirellis and I think there's an OEM Continental but will need to do more research and check if star marked

Thanks for the info so far :-)

I run the * marked Pirelli P Zero on a X drive X1.
These are non RFT but there is a * marked RFT version.
I find they provide great grip and are therefore more performance orientated than the Bridgestones that came OEM.
