Coolant use - 116d B37

Morning all,

116d has been using coolant over the autumn/winter. Originally a litre every 1000 miles or so, but now up to a litre every 200 miles ish. Couldn’t see any evidence of it in the engine bay, under the oil filler as mayo, round the visible pipes, at the water pump, and last year our local indy ran it all day to inspect and couldn’t find anything either.

Another problem which I think was unrelated arose this year, and a faulty turbo pressure sensor valve was replaced. Different local indy couldn’t see any evidence of coolant leak.

Anyone had experience of similar or have any ideas? Car runs fine, usual MPG and engine response etc. Mainly gets used for 30-40 min commute as opposed to little journeys too.

Had a scout online and can’t really find similar. TIA

Leaking through egr cooler and burned off through the engine/exhaust.

Pressure test it with the pipe and intake manifold disconnected and you should be able to confirm it

Old thread resection

I'm having the same problem with my 116d Ed. No external leaks and the garage I've purchased it from have pressure tested it twice to no avail.

Dud you manage to get to the bottom of it?

It’s in just now getting new EGR cooler- thanks Elliot.

How much is yours losing? Mine was very noticeable now. Like a litre every 100 miles. Nobody found anything when It wasn’t as bad.
