No such thing as a “cheap” E65

2006 E65 750i
I’ve posted a couple of times about my E65... it was a cheap car it’s a 56 plate 105000 mile example in black with cream interior (I’d go for black next time).
Down to the issues, firstly it was throwing water out like you wouldn’t believe (radiator sensor O ring - replaced the whole unit and hose for good measure). Next up the rear lower near side suspension bushes (cheap part lots of labour).
Rear near side door handle assembly replaced (cheap labour not a cheap part)
Now it’s had four tyres but you can’t count them and a software update that took 5 hours and leaves me with a sat nav with German setup menus 😂.
I want to say that to top all this off the intermittent issue with the key (it refused to accept it\it wouldn’t give it back which resolved itself a few hours later) was being resolved at a cost. The slot for the key needs replacing and the replacement comes with two new keys at a cost of £1060 fitted inc vat.
The latest part has to come from Germany although given the amount of time it’s taking you could fly to Pluto quicker... 18 (14 working) days. I mean has Germany moved? I can get deliveries from China faster however that of little help because they don’t make the right parts.
Living the E65 dream 😂😂

Haha tell me about it...
When I first bought mine, it had an airbag warning light on, all pointed to the passenger seat sensor, Carly for bmw Said that too... Easy fix? Nope...
Turned out to be a module on the main battery cable, a £500 fix with the new part from BMW & the diagnostics cost via a local auto electrics specialist...
There than that, just standard suspension/brakes/alloys & tyres etc...

Ive got a 2005 facelift e65 750, so cheaper road tax!
Owned it about 4 years and i do my own work on it.
Valve stem oil seals was the big one, but did it diy for £500 which included timing cover gaskets, air filters, spark plug tubes and spark plugs.
Had battery drain caused by comfort access door handle - £40 part from breaker - Initially i replaced the battery with a bosch agm £170, which was unnecessary.
Just replaced the trans fluid for about £280 i think.
Routine oil changes which are about £60 with a filter.
So far, i’ve been fairly happy with it. I’m sure the above would of cost a fortune at a garage.

I think the issue with the 7 is it gets the new tech first, it then filters down the range over the coming years so it's a bit of complex guinea pig, my G11 7 series has had more grumbles in 6 weeks than the other 11 BMWs I've had put together, just little ghosts in the machine random glitches that have hopefully been sorted by the dealer flashing it to the latest ISTA istep level.
Some of the features are needlessly complex in my view I don't need to see the seat in the idrive when I'm adjusting it but they've made the seat controls touch sensitive to allow this to happen, it's an example of pointless complexity in my view.

And so the saga continues... part ordered on the 5th quoted 3-5 days from Germany and a day to fit... so the car back on the 13th right? Wrong, a telephone call on the 13th to say the part isn’t due in until the 19th but I would definitely have the car back the 20th.
So yesterday all excited I phoned BMW and they said “yeah we emailed a query about that last week no one got back to us” to which there were expletives from me... as it stands no one has a bloody clue when the part may arrive.
Now I know it’s an old car and all they want to do is shift new metal but the service is bloody awful

Pah, that’s nothing. Be thankful you’re not buying the rear numberplate light trim. I waited >5months for that *.
Luckily I was doing it out of want, rather than need. Imagine the credit hire bill - there’s a reason these are so cheap to buy, though pretty much any bump will write one off in repair costs.
* still haven’t fitted the f
king thing though have I? It’s been sat in the shed (the garden one, not the car) since last April. Must get around to it this year.
