My car is in bmw as part of the recall on the egr. I’ve got a hire car through enterprise but it’s pretty annoying paying nearly £300 a month to bmw and driving an Astra!
Would I gain anything complaining to bmw or would I just get told it’s tough, it’s in for repair and that’s that. Just seems wrong they just take your car from you and I’m still paying for it and by the sounds of things it’s not coming back anytime soon!

Why can you not take the car back whilst the part is ordered in?

Because all the "like for like" cars have EGR failures and are at the dealerships being repaired! wink

When I say like for like I don't necessarily mean the same make/marque.

Read similar cost/quality.

Did it suddenly stop working as soon as the recal was announced?

Not allowed to drive it once identified as needing the part otherwise I would probably take my chance

No idea that’s my problem. Bmw just say they’ve no idea and I’ve heard of people who’s cars are still there 6 weeks later!
I know these things happen and I am at least somewhat grateful to still be mobile but I’m not quite happy paying so much to drive around in Astra for what I’m paying with no idea when I’ll get my own car back.

I think a week or two then I’d just suck it up but with no fixed end date that’s pretty poor.

Have you suggested to them that after a certain time you’ll be expecting an upgrade or some sort of adjustment to the finance? No idea whether that would help.

All the best.

If you ask them they should waive the monthly payments.

Yeah that was my thoughts originally, a week or 2 is fine but when your told they have no idea and they have cars that have been there longer than my own I started to feel a little pi##ed off then.
I think I may contact the finance company / bmw and enquire about adjustments to payments etc.

Should do as in goodwill or real fact?

When I got my first m135i, I was without it the car for 21 days or so, I got a cheque paying me for the cost of the lease for those 21 days, plus a gesture of good will of around £200 iirc, plus after explaining that a 116d wasn’t similar to what I was paying for I had a brand new 520d msport dropped off for 10 days or so.

Speak to the finance company as technically it is their car.

Many, many years ago when BMW were having issues with coil packs and there was a big backlog, I worked for Enterprise. If customers jumped up and down a lot with BMW customer services we were authorised to provide a 318i rather than an Astra.

If the car is less than 3 years old & still under manufacturer warranty or is an AUC car that’s under an SUC warranty then they’ll provide at least like for like where ever possible, if you’re car isn’t under manufacturer or AUC warranty then they’ll just provide you with a basic car to keep you mobile.

I seen a guy on Facebook who got a X3 40i as his loaner
