I have a 640i which as above seems very quiet on cold start.

In sport mode the car sounds great when I am driving it but after having an M4 and a 340i the car is very conservative which is probably right for a barge.

On my 340i you were able to unplug a lead on the exhaust which meant the flap in the exhaust stayed open and the car started with both exhausts running not one.

The 640i also starts on one exhaust but I can’t see a lead underneath anywhere.

Does anyone know if you can get the 640i to start with both exhausts to get a better sound to it?

Just pipe your own noise in, we don’t want to hear it.

Is it louder on a "hot" start? Might be the mapping etc.

Is there any reason you want your cold start to be louder?

I recently fitted a new exhaust to my motorcycle. I left the baffle in for the first cold start when I rode it to work, and took the baffle out at work to see if it was much louder. It is a bit, but not excessively so however I've asked the neighbors to let me know if it becomes irritating, in which case I'l quieten it down again.

There is a point behind his comment, why do you want to wake up the neighbourhood every morning with a noisy exhaust? You seem to be happy with the noise when everything is up to normal so I don't see any problem.

Besides: it is not a good idea to hammer a car when the engine is cold.

I didn’t say I wanted a noisy exhaust. It just sounds better with both sides open, deeper not louder.

I am not going to wake anyone up with it so that isn’t an issue.

I don’t think it can be done so no problem.

Your thread title states "640i Exhaust too quiet on cold start" that leads the reader to believe that you want it not to be too quiet, therefore you want it noisier.

Yep, I gave up and tried to naturally close the thread.
