I'm looking at ditching our BMW Z4 35i and 120d M-Sport and merging them into a 220i Convertible. The only area of concern potentially is the refinement with the hood up, I expect it'll be a little less than the 120d but is there likely to be much difference? We will use it for some longer journeys and so this is important.

On our 10th BMW but have a 218d convertible loan car for a few days. What a piece of crap ride wise! The engine's quite good but the suspension is vile. Crash and jiggly.
Forget the top up worry, just don't buy one.
I'm struggling after two days.
Horrid thing.
Go test drive again and don't fool yourself into buying one.

It's a different car but we have an E93 325i m-sport and it's one of the most refined cars I have ever driven. Even with the roof down it's well protected from the elements.

As was my E46 330ci MSport convertible, but that had great suspension and poise. The 2 series is just horrible to be in no matter how refined the hood is.

.
Ok, thanks. I'm looking at a M235i or possibly M240i and from what I read, the adaptive suspension is very good on those, better than on lower spec models.

I've owned the M235 and M240 coupes, and wouldn't entertain one without adaptive dampers.
