Hi, my brake fluid change is nearly due on my f25 X3 & I was wondering what the normal ( ish ) price for this will be from main dealers so I can have a rough idea what to expect. Cheers.

I believe this is now three-yearly, rather than every two years as previously. Has anything changed with regard to brake fluid properties?

I thought it was three years now from new, then two. No change to brake fluid relevant to lifespan. The only change in the last few years is that BMW and most other manufacturers changed from DOT 4 to low viscosity DOT 4. An awful lot of garages aren’t aware of the change and put normal DOT 4 in everything.

The purpose of low viscosity fluid is to pass through small orifices faster within the ABS/ASC/DSC system allowing the systems to work as fast as possible.

Sometimes the dealers will price match the likes of Halford or F1 Autocentre if you ask, then it will make for a very cheap Brake fluid change! Not all will but worth trying..

Just had the brake fluid changed at my Independent specialist, £40 for work, plus £7.50 for fluid.
