Will my BMW survive??
Discussion
So I have an 11 plate 118d with about 115,000 miles on the clock. I’m currently a university student and commute about 350 miles a week. The car has been great so far and I haven’t had any problems. Will it last the duration of my university studies (3 years) or shall I throw in the towel now whilst I can still get a bit of money for it?
It’s got full service history and 3 owners including me.

Regular oil changes will help prolong the life of the engine, every 10k max using decent BMW spec oil (Fuchs, Mobil 1, Castrol etc)
Timing chains can be problomoatic, you could get it replaced aswell as the tensioners and guides (only use OEM parts though, i've seen aftermarket kits fail) as preventive maintenance.

My 125i has just clicked over 133.5k, still feels tight as a drum and as if it will do another 133k without too many issues. As recommended, ensure you change the oil every 10k or so (if you don't want to do it yourself National Tyres used to be very reasonable, not much more than buying the oil and filter yourself), but the rest of the car should be fine.
Pretty sure the 11 Plate Diesels were improved from a reliability POV anyway.

As other have said before, if you look after it, it will be fine.
Took our 57 plate 120d to 190,000 miles. We had the timing chain recall done at 150k but things didn't really start to go wrong until around the 160K mark when we had to replace the turbo and then at 175k, we the had the common fault with the ABS sensors on the rear axle requiring the drive shafts to be replaced But apart from that it ran really well,
Couldn't get it to 200k as the DPF was deemed to be near the end of it's life and with a couple of other issues, decided to chop it in for an current F20 116d.
