Hi all, wondering if someone could possibly shed some light on the current problem I have.
When I pulled out of a junction yesterday it suddenly died and couldn't get it to start, managed to get it round the corner, waited a minute and it just wouldn't start, cranks perfectly however.

Got my iCarly on it and I'm getting the following errors -

4D00:Exhaust back pressure sensor, signal

4010:Exhaust back pressure sensor before particle filter, signal

4B90:Rail pressure monitoring at engine start

4E04:Swirl flap plate, position control

4E09:Swirl flap, plausibility

All errors were cleared and then ran again and these are the ones that still are showing.

Now a few months ago I was getting quite a loud whining noise coming from near the tank so I'm 99% sure the low pressure pump is located around that area, however it did stop whining but I'm thinking the pump has failed if I'm getting rail pressure monitoring at engine start?

The other scary thought is I was speaking to a mechanic today about the car and told him about the errors and he seems to think if its not the pump the swirl flaps may have broke off and fallen in the engine? But thing is when the breakdown chap sprayed some easy start into the air box it did fire up ok...

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Ask on the BMW e9x owners club Facebook page, you might get a clue there.

Needs to do to a decent mechanic though by the sound of it.

If it fired up on easy-start it must be a fuel problem. Check out that fuel pump noise you heard.

Thanks and most definitely, I just hope it is the low pressure pump that has gone.

Forgive me asking the obvious, does it have fuel in?

Yeah it does, as that's what I thought was the first problem, as before it died it was down to approximately 70 miles according to computer so went and got a can of diesel but didn't solve it unfortunately frown

We had an e46 320d and that had a fuel pump relay issue that was quite common apparently.

Depending on where you are based Barker’s Motor Works in HASLEMERE Surrey diagnosed and fixed ours.

Why do folk ask for help, but assume we know what year/E-model it is?

320d with a problem = most likely an E9x model. Given they all break at some point.

Ours flashed up the light bulb error light today. It went a whole week without something going wrong as well!!

Ha.

At least with mine being a petrol is probably won't set itself on fire, much.

OP...make sure you check for any outstanding recalls....see previous comment about self immolation.
