Had my 528 for 15 years now, used to take it to Germany/Poland every year until I got a company car 6 years ago. VW now gone so BMW brought out of retirement (unlike me hahaha). I'd like to go to Europe again but looking at breakdown cover for such an "old banger" expensive and doesnt take account ITS A BEEMER. never let me down. Anybody know of a decent breakdown cover that respects BMW quality and reliability?

Try the ADAC (German equivalent of the AA) Plus membership, covers you throughout Europe and I don't think there is an age limit on the car as it covers you, not a particular vehicle

You might want to hold off on using ADAC, unless you're sure they'll cover a UK customer after Brexit.

Also, I've never had a particularly good experience with them, after being left with a non-running car that they would only take to a local garage in Germany (for repair, not diagnosis - as the breakdown driver knew what the problem was a shattered crank mass damper), rather than repatriate it as per my ADAC Plus policy.

I took my E39 to France for 2 weeks last summer and used AA for cover. It was about £150-£180 depending on how comprehensive cover you want.

If you like you car and want keep it then you'll need to get the "return to home" level of cover; the basic levels of cover simply offered to pay out for the car rather than fix it. And change your wiper relay before you go- it cost me £100 to get mine changed by a rural French garage frown

Thanks guys for your comments and suggestions. Yeah, guess I need to let dust settle first on the Brexit thing and check out situation then. Cheers and safe traveling.

I take a premium account with my bank which includes breakdown cover for any car I am in. Means I don't need to specifically do it for a car, and pay through the nose. smile

I had a 15 year old car three years ago and found that the bundled bank account cover works out best. As mentioned above it covers you rather than the car plus gives you travel insurance, mobile cover etc. Worked out much cheaper for us than buying breakdown cover separately.

Cannot comment on how good they are though.....fortunately!!

You could be right there, less than 3 weeks till we find out!
I have had a look on their website, and if you go for the Germany only coverage membership and it will not accept a UK postcode, go for the 'Plus' Worldwide Membership which covers Europe and it accepts a UK postcode, so in 3 and a bit weeks I'll try again and see what happens.
