BMW UK order tracking

I'm sure this subject may have been covered before, so I'm hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

I have a new M2 competition on order through a lease broker. I'm just wondering if there is a way in the UK of tracking the order with BMW?
A couple of years ago I was able to track a new Audi order from the countdown to its build date right away through the factory up until UK delivery and I know it's a bit sad but it was interesting.

My lease broker is telling me that BMW don't issue order numbers until the car has chassis number and that usually is when it is in the UK and nearing ready for delivery - to be honest I'm struggling to believe that the case and I just wondering if anyone has experience of tracking their order and how they went about doing it?

Obtain the 7 digit BMW factory order number from the supplying dealer via the lease company then go to the BMW website and start a chat with a "genius". They will be able to give you status update and estimated times. The status codes are 4 digits.

From a previous chat:
"Your BMW is at 1100 Scheduled.
The expected delivery week is week 36 in September (w/c 3/9)"
