In a moment of parental distraction and an apparently broken warning light.. I drove off with my handbrake left on (auto, easy to do).

After a gentle think, realisation and subsequent side of the road inspection I now have a not particularly tightly adjusted handbrake, and an annoying rattle. I am guessing one of shoes has relieved itself of its pad. The foot brakes work and feel completely fine.

Given this is the drum in disc, is there any risk in driving? The brakes weren't hot after I got home. I can live without the handbrake, it's already booked in to the garage on Friday for a service, but in meantime I need to get home from Cornwall!

I know of an old E30 that had a rear brake fire from a very poorly adjusted handbrake shoe and elderly driver combination. Older car of course but the similar handbrake arrangement.
If you think something is going on inside the disc and you have the kids in the car I would just have the disc off and see what's what. Why risk it would be my advice.
