My 2014 F30 picks up a memory stick with music on and plays, but won’t pick up a variety of iPhones, 5s, 6+ and 8+ And claims “not supported”

Any ideas? Thanks

The older BMW’s required the bmw specific Y cable.

Basically this: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

I checked the compatibility of my f30 and the latest model of iPhone it can be compatible with is the iPhone 6+ (making my iPhone 8+ useless) but even with the 6+ would this Y cable work, because the 6+ doesn’t have an aux plug in on the phone itself if you get what I mean?

The 6 plus does have an aux, I think it was the 7 where the aux was dropped. The 6 plus is literally a 6 with a bigger screen, battery and slightly better camera

I've got a late 2013 F30 and my 6S and iPod classic connect fine with the original apple usb cables.

Yeah you’re right actually! Just checked and I was trying to plug in an iPhone 7 and 8+ which obviously aren’t supported.... But the 5s still doesn’t work. Baffling stuff

No it doesn’t, the only option that comes up when you configure the bluetooth is ‘telephone’

But bmw website does state I have audio playback with usb connection

This is what comes up every time..

This DRM message did come up though when I was looking through iDrive. Doubt this has any thing to do with the actual phone connecting to my car though?

That’s not the widescreen that’s not even nav it’s the basic system. I suspect you might struggle to do something to get it to work, but you can buy plug in aftermarket boxes that give you carplay. Don’t know on the reliability of them or the quality but it’s an easy option

I don’t even think it’s possible to do that, I was going to code enhanced Bluetooth onto the iDrive but I don’t even have a combox in the boot!! Pisses me off cos it’s not like a basic se model. Baffles me

This is what I mean: https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/carplay-navigation...

How good these are I don’t know, but it is an option.
