Very impressed by the new 3 series and intrigued to know whether the UK will be getting the rear wheel drive M340i or just the xDrive version. Anybody know? Cheers.

I’ve read it’s North America only.
Interesting niche , IF the new M3 with a DCT can only be had in AWD (albeit switchable like M5) , this car is the fastest option for someone wanting a pure RWD saloon who doesn’t want a manual; that’s still assuming there’s going to be this M3 pure , less power but manual.

I’m pretty sure N/America won’t be getting the touring (wagon) at all so niche ends there.

IIRC the UK is only getting the X-drive version of the M340i.

I think that's correct; a RWD version will be available in other parts of the world but the UK will get the M340i in X-Drive form only (which is a shame IMO!).

Yes a real shame. Maybe BMW thought there wouldn’t be a market for a RWD version here as the S4 and C43 are AWD.

I’ve watched a few ‘reviews’ on Youtube and it seems ace. Would definitely have one over the Audi and Merc.

My only gripe and I suppose it applies to the G20 in general is the horrid digital dash.

With you on that - and the horrible exhaust "trim" - the lower models look better.

Yep we're only getting the xdrive version the last rear wheel drive is on the current F3X models so i'm going to keep my F31 for a while i think now.

Would like to try the new one when it comes out in estate form to see how it compares but will probably stay put

I think it’d be reasonable to assume that ALPINA may be the way forward if you’re looking for a RWD alternative although, obviously, any future plans for [aftermarket] tuning could be somewhat limited.

Estate is on my short list (of 1) to swap my cash for when it comes out later this year - x-drive version is all I was interested in anyway. I had a deposit down for an S4 a few months ago but Audi have well and truly destroyed that dream...

My wife has the m40i engine in her X4 and I'm looking forward to driving something similar with a chunk of lard sliced off.

Yes I had an B8 S4 on my list of things before i bought my 340i but purely finances didn't line up as the Audi was about £200 more a month than the BMW so it was discounted. I just loved the fact you could remap it and get RS4 performance out of it.

The X3 M40i is a weapon and on the list for a replacement for the 340i i think unfortunately i hate the design of the X4 haha

She had a 340i touring before the X4 M40i. A big step up, as will be the X3. Working for BMW means she gets to try out a lot of nice cars with zero risk and swap them when she gets bored!

Wonder when BMW will release pricing?

My m140i lease comes to an end in September, hope there will be enough time to order before then.

Website has changed from 'available to order in July' to 'available to order in Summer'. Suggests that date may slip.

I got a copy of the German price list translated and the M340i was coming in at around 12k Euros more than a 330i
