Hi everyone I just picked up a 2007 X5 with 73k on the clock. All seems good and well as its appears to have to been looked after with lots of service history. Only issue is the MPG. ok I wasn't expecting 50mpg but all i'm getting is 19mpg and I am driving very sensibly, i.e. light on accelerator, no aircon and anticipating the traffic etc etc. Just had its MOT and a service. Does this sound right?
If you are only doing city driving, that is about right. Even more so if you are doing short city runs. These rarely go above 25mpg average, city driving is hard on the MPG as it requires a lot of effort from the engine to get the car moving with its 2 tonne+ weight. Only thing that could possibly increase MPG is the glow plugs, seeing that you have serviced it recently, but if there is no lumpiness on startup/no codes, then that isn't an issue. Other thing could be tyre pressures, but RFT's hold pressure really well normally.
Either way, a code check would be great anyway.

That's very good for a 4.4 V8, not so good for a 3.0 diesel. Maybe if you tell us which engine it is, we can appraise properly.sorry everyone, I forgot to post the engine model number! Its 3.0 diesel. the one with 235bhp I believe
I will perform a reset today (I've only had it a week) Yes short journey under 5miles with a fare bit of stop start, not traffic but lights and junctions etc.
How about if I chuck some redex in there? may help?

So I guess this will be the M57 engine? Notorious for bad thermostats (2 of them) which tend to affect MPG as the engine never gets up to temperature. Might be worth going into the hidden menu & seeing what temperatures you're getting up to. It should heat up to 90ish quickly enough, then stay there. Big fluctuations mean a bad thermostat.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
