Newish run flat with a nail in it
Discussion
Right decision. I've had several RFTs repaired no problem. Although obviously it should not be repaired if it has been driven on when flat as it can cause invisible damage that compromises the tyre. Just ignore the advice of the big places like Kwikfit that refuse to repair a RFT and take it to a small (and cheaper!) place.
Not sure about this, but I think some sealants that come with the car wreck the tyre, meaning it has to be replaced, whereas stuff like Holts Tyreweld is supposedly able to be washed out of the tyre so that it can be repaired. I carry a can in both my BMW (with RFTs) and in my Lotus but fortunately haven't had to use it (yet).

The big tyre guys won't touch it as they can't guarantee how long it has been run 'flat', potentially destroying the sidewalls.
Local backstreet guy sorted one for me for a tenner a couple of years ago.
To be fair I think it's more about the staff at the chains don't know how to do it/can't be bothered/are more interested in selling new tyres and might be on a bonus for sales. Local backstreet guy sorted one for me for a tenner a couple of years ago.

But find an independent outlet and if it can be done, they'll do it. Which seems like good business sense - if they do a repair that saves you £100 where are you going to go next time you need tyres? I've been using the same place for over 10 years.

Speaking of sealants (and hoping I'm not going too far off topic), what's the difference between the aerosol-type sealant and the sealant supplied with the car which has to be pumped in?
I'm not familiar with the aerosol-type - all the ones I've seen have to be introduced through the valve. The one I'd recommend is Slime - can be washed out of the tyre so repair is easier.https://www.slime.com/uk/products/lawn-garden/seal...

I’ve never come across one that can’t be washed out and the tyre subsequently repaired. Many dealers will lead you to believe that they can’t because there’s a long drying period needed after washing the tyre out (ever tried emptying water from a tyre?!) and it’s just impractical for them.
If you can take the time to wash the tyre out, then leave it for a couple of days to dry out properly then it’s possible.

Just get yourself a piece of cloth with good soakage and mop it out. You will be left with a wet surface which will dry very quickly.
