In terms of the 2 door coupe does the 3 series and 4 series coupe have more leg room than the 6 series? It seems like the 4 series has the most leg room, does this sound this right?

6 series is a fabulous drive / place to be and now very good value on the used market but its low down seating and tight rear led room make it hard work for 14 year olds and above . There are lots of 640d gran coupes around !

Thanks, appreciate it smile

I have my heart set on an M6, it's totally a dream car for me. A V8 M3 might be a better choice but to me a little dull in comparison. I'm open to an M5 if I can find a decent one in budget.

I would consider the 650 GC if I can find a decent one in budget. Seems like a nice balance of the power and size but the GC just doesn't have the same appeal to me as the coupe. I'm not really looking at the 640D, doesn't seem it has the performance, I need to look into them more.

The 435i is a serious contender, the back seat in these is actually really decent for a coupe. But again a compromise in performance and I like the idea of a V8 soundtrack.

Just wish/hope I could make the M6 work for my needs with 2 kids, 11 and 7.

My 11 year old son is completely happy in the back seat of our 650i, more room than you thing as the seat base is scalloped out

M4 would be better bet than an M6, in terms of legroom, and 435i and 640d have very similar performance but very different driving. 440i GC perhaps?

I would look for a M6 GC or M5 when you have 7 and 11 year old kids.

I'm looking at a 635 but my 12 year old daughter is already 5'5" and likely to be a six footer, like her mother.

Thanks for the input. The 440i GC does look quite nice. It does seem compromisey on performance though. A V8 M3 seems more appealing to me.

The M6 GC would be absolutely ideal for me but alas a few thousand £ stretch too far and I unfortunately have a cut off line.

M4 again, just a tiny bit out of reach again, frustratingly.

M5 sounds great, there are some options there.

I really wish there was a V8 4 series!

Ahhhh, you're in the same boat as me! Have you tried it and do you think it's OK? I really want the 6 series to work for me it's a dream car. I love the Bangle series 6's and an under warranty M6 in particular would be a very special thing to me.

Even if I only got 3 years old play out of it before my kids got too big I would be at least a bit happier.

The tuning market has been finding that B58 engine in the 440i makes approx.10% more power than BMW's published figures. A stock one has 367hp and 380lb-ft.

430 lb-ft and over 440hp with a stage 1 map...……….

Thanks, very interesting. There is something quite compelling about that v8 soundtrack though, right?

I think the 440 or 435 is probably the more sensible and practical option but, bloody hell I hate those words biggrin

How realistic is the legroom in this 6 series picture? That seems totally doable but does it mean that front seat legroom is really bad?

Not at all - both front passengers would have to have very short legs to give that much room in the back! biggrin

They’re OK for short journeys and under 12s, beyond that it’s likely to be a real struggle... It’s a 2+2, despite the size, where as a 4 series is a four seater.

This is with the car set up for me (5ft 10ins) as driver and wife as front seat passenger (5ft 4ins) - our 11 year old is fine behind the front seat passenger, only way I could carry anybody in comfort behind me is to pull the seat forward

E90 M3 does sound great ( I prefer sixes and twelves though ). The power band on the V8 M3 is huge and it just revs and revs whereas the N55 and B58 do all their best work at the lower end. Depends what you like tbh.

That before and after map shows how suppressed the stock map is on the B58 from 5k revs to the redline.

Happy hunting thumbup

Yes you're right.

We have a very nice 630 in the extended family and she managed that ok but she grew about 2 inches over Easter and doesn't appear to be slowing down.

I'm wondering if we stick her younger brother in the front with the seat forward how long we'll manage? I think she's going to run out of rear headroom before legroom. He's 10 but already looks like a rugby player

I think the 6 is a cracking car and the biggest impression I had from my drive was the incredible ride comfort on non-runflat 19's - better on bad roads than most of the French cars I've experienced.

Hey Andy, thanks very much for the photo that is super helpful. Do you find your 11 year old is OK with longer journeys, 2 hours or so?

i do have the advantage of having a very petite 5ft wife. My daughter is following her size, so tiny, and could sit behind me. My boy who is growing more like me, over 6ft, can sit behind his mum.

I would be happy to get 3-4 years of use of something like the M6 (which is a dream car)

I'm alternatively looking at a Panamera and Cayenne. But damn, I just love those M6's.

Yes, Noah s just over 5ft tall now and 2-3 hours behind the passenger seat no problem, often my son sits in the front and my wife at 5ft 4ins is fine behind the passenger seat - both of them have commented on how comfortable it is in the back

I am 5ft 10-11, and I do fit in the back of a E63 6 series, just about enough kneeroom and about 1 inch to go of headroom. But, the F13 will probably be more spacious, I believe they are slightly larger in dimensions overall. Gran Coupe will be just fine for most people. E92 3 series has decent space in the back as well, but nothing crazy, not hugely better than the 6 series.

Thanks guys. My heart is set on the size so I'm just going to have to try them out I think. Thanks a lot for your perspectives, really appreciate it.
