I purchased a nice 1996 BMW 840Ci at the Silverstone Auctions at Stoneleigh. There are a few mechanical bits and pieces that I want to get sorted. It also has a sagging headlining with some water staining around the sunroof aperture. I am based in Hertfordshire. Does anyone know where I can have the headlining and sunroof interior panel renewed? It is a light grey colour, not black.

Thank you.

Most trimmers can sort that for you, I use D class in chobham

Make sure the source of the leak is identified, the drain channels for the sunroof get blocked

I disagree. The head lining on an 8 is very difficult to retrim. Both the trimmers I have used in the past did a good job but refuse to do another. I regularly get 8 Series cars here with sunroof problems when the roof lining has been retrimmed. I inevitably have to remove all the trim from the shutter and sunroof panel to get them operational again.

The problem is the lining board is crumbling as it was designed to bio-degrade and so trying to stick new lining material to the board is almost a waste of time because the surface it is adhered to is crumbling away. The material has not come unstuck, the board is disintegrating.

This, had to get ours retrimmed as it became a hat and had peeled off the secondary upper sunroof portion, managed to get the sunroof operational now but not on full tilt, it just clicks and makes bad noises and so far the trimmer has just said "it needs a reset".
Resets done stop the bad noises coming from it.

When you say you have to remove all the trim from shutter and roof panel, what do you mean? I need to tell this guy what is wrong with it so he can fix it.

You can still get new ones through BMW Classic, either €370 (silver Grey) or $425 (Parchment) for one with sunroof.
