Wife recently got a late 2016 i8 from a main dealer. Tread on tyres was legal but just noticed the outer edge on all of them has perished quite badly. Just looked and the tyres are date stamped mid-2014. Is that unusual? Means the tyres are 2+ yrs older than the actual car. Car was one owner and had 9k on the clock

My guess would be either it had new old stock tyres fitted previously, but more than likely someone has stuck a part worn on it, perhaps as they knew it was going to be p/xed, or returned to the lease company.

Or at some point the wheels have been swapped for a different set with older tyres?

Proving it will be difficult, but certainly worth taking it up with the dealer.

Edit - have you checked the car wasn’t built in 2014, but perhaps not registered until 2016? Just a thought?

Tyres have a life span of poss 6-8 years

We replaced a full set of tyres on my mum’s corsa that had started to perish badly after 8 years and 9k miles

I’d have a look at the build date of your car, manufacturers tyres are normally in the 6 months before build date although I believe tyres can be sold as “new” up to 5 years after manufacture

Your 2016 registered car could easily have been built in 2015 in which case the tyres might not be that far out

Tyres are delivered direct from tyre manufacturer to car factory on a just-in-time basis, as are most parts. They will rarely be more than a month older than the build date of the car.

Someone has put an older tyre on at some time.

If it is an approved used car, complain.
