BMW X3 diesel 56 plate
Discussion
My engine management light come on today and the car went into safe mode. It will not go above 2-3000 revs.
I have just topped up the oil which was very low and now the engine management light has gone off but it is still driving in safe mode with limited power.
Any ideas would be appreciated . Thanks

I’ve had a mobile Diesel engine specialist check my car and do diagnostics. He said my EPF has been previously removed and that’s causing the problem. He remapped my car but that did not help. At a cost of £200. He then said it’s the mass air flow meter that needs replacing which he tried but again this didn’t work. He then blocked off the EGR but still no difference???
No charge for parts as they were returned but another £60 labour cost and no further forward. They have now taken my car into to their garage to investigate further. They have been working on it over the course of 4 days but we are still in the same position.
Does anyone have any suggestions please anything at all may help thanks

There's a reason no-one has posted - there's too many variables here. Removed DPF, blanked EGR and remapped (but apparently not very well or too late), all done to lord-knows-what standard. I suggest putting everything back to stock.
BMW DPFs are generally trouble-free if maintained. The main problem in my experience is that there are a few fault codes that prevent a DPF from regenerating if all other conditions are met (temperature, fuel level & RPM's). Some faults won't trigger a warning light, so people say 'oh no, my troublesome DPF is full', which of course it is as it hasn't been able to regenerate, they have it removed and coded out (by a confident 'expert' with a nice web page) but that's rarely the end of it.
