New wings for 1998 E36 Coupe
Discussion
My 323i E36 coupe black 1998 is rusting away on the wings. the engine is still good so want to see what options there are for replacing the 2 front wings and either replacing/cutting out arches on rear wings. Can someone indicate a reasonable place they know (I'm base in Hertford, about 15 miles north of london) - I am price limited so realise this may not be feasible at all. I'd need everything including fitting and painting.

Mine (1999 E36 318iS with 70k miles and mechanically superb) has rust in numerous places...
- Both rear arches
- Both rear inner arches
- Bottom edge of boot lid
- All along the weld where the nearside rear three quarter panel was replaced many years ago
- leading edge of driver's door
- bottom of driver's door
- bottom of passenger's door
- along the edge of the bonnet on the nearside
I got a quote of £8,500 +/- 10% to fix it all and repaint the whole car.
Obviously this is a no go for me as the car would be worth £4,500 max when done and even if I were willing to pay such a huge bill to have the work done I'd be screwed if it was written off in an accident as the insurance company would only pay its market value.
I guess in your case OP you need to look for a localised repair and partial paint job. My only advice is to get some quotes. Knowing what E36s are like they'll probably find a whole lot more work when they start looking closely at it.
Anyway, I'll be watching the thread with interest as I'd love to get mine sorted.

I tend to use Kieran at Harpenden Performance for any bodywork I have; he's a straight talker, and will tell you exactly what it will cost. Best thing to do would be to call by & see him (if the car is mobile). http://www.hcandp.co.uk/thanks, Tony
I had one little rust bleb on one rear arch and a bit of rot on the lip of the front wing on my E36 about 4 years ago and had the rot cut out and repainted both panels for £250.
The rear is still like new but a small rust bubble has come back on the front arch but I was told it would on the front as it had been repainted before apparently.
I bought a new pattern wing from ECP for around £35 with the discount codes and will get it replaced next year but not sure if I should cut the arch off the new wing and use that rather than replacing the wing on mine as pattern parts can be hit or miss when it comes to fitting.
