Is it quite a big job taking them out? personally I'll be getting mine reconditioned when I get around to getting them done, while they are out of the car, my wastegates are a bit rattily. A couple of companies that charge just under a grand to take them out, refurb them and put them back, in the same day. I thought that seemed good value and I'd go for that if I cant find a company to refurb them. In my opinion, I wouldn't pay 1200 quid a year for a warranty, if my car cost any where near 100 quid a month on repairs, Id consider it a lemon and get shot of it, but then if you are getting work done at the main dealer I suppose 1200 quid might get the oil changed lol ;-)

£1200 per year for a warranty? No way, just put the money aside.
Anyone know how much wastegates will cost to rebuild? I've read 500-700. Also read about people getting jb4s and resetting them via this. If the rattle is there does this mean issues for the turbos? Any way to tell? J90ack said:

PMP Cars in Nuneaton replaces the wastegates with uprated VTT flappers for £590 all in. Cheapest you'll find it, and they do tonnes of them so they know what they're doing. People travel from all over to get it done there and that's where I'll go if mine ever starts to rattle.Acidrop said:

That's the company I found advertising on ebay, glad they seem ok, because that's where I'm going soon. They rebuild and refit both turbos for £990, surely if they are out you may as well them reconditioned as the life for any turbo is limited ? I only have the wastegate rattle but I'm going to get them rebuilt. I'm in Bristol so don't want to go back there again in a year or so time because they are shagged
Why don't you let them inspect the turbos first to see if they need a rebuild? I'm on the original turbos on 135k and have no wastegate rattle, so they can last.

Mine are rattling quite bad. there is evidence in my service history by BMW in 2015 saying turbos my need looking at soon, or words to that effect. ant way I payed 3 grand below the market value when I bought it so I got money to play with so to speak, so if the garage say they can take them out, rebuild them and put them back in for a grand they will be like new and I'll have that piece of mind. But thanks for your input though, I've always been told by various mechanics that turbos on any car have a limited life. but if they assure me they are fine, then i'll leave it I guess and save my grandI'm on the original turbos on 135k and have no wastegate rattle, so they can last.
Cheers guys. I've heard of PMP so will try and get over to them when time allows. In the meantime, I've been to a local bmw indy who assures me rattling wastegates aren't detrimental - unfortunately the only solution they offered was a turbo replacement at £3k. For the time being, I'm just driving round sounding like a rattlesnake!

sounds like mine :-) the world of difference then between 3 grand and 1 grand, I'll take mine up next month after my bathroom is done and I'll leave feedback on here. I'll get them to fit some uprated bits and pieces while they are there ;-)J90ack said:

There are quite a few ways to make your wastegates quieter before having to replace them. You can adjust the actuator rod to tighten the wastegate, or hook a spring onto the actuator arm and hook the other end on the heat shield to keep the arm tight. Reduces rattle significantly and isn't difficult to do.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
