Hi all

Just had my car serviced at a BMW garage and I have to say very disappointed with them

My DAB signal was dropping off all the time and asked them to check it

I was in a state of shock when I was told it was the dog licking the rear window on a X3 passenger side

I just about fell down laughing at that comment but was angry at the excuse

When I attended the garage they showed to damage to the widow grid antenna which about 4 inches has been removed

It had to be when I have detailed the X3 that the grid was damaged

Anyway I have to accept this issue but it’s going to cost £840 to resolve

Given my anger I just paid the bill and when I got home I fount the following

Trace DAB fault £111.00

Retune keyfob to rear tailgate £65.00

I’ve spent a fortune on BMW AND ALPINAS but that’s my last visit to that garage and last BMW

JUST A NOTE waTch how you treat the window grids on the rear windows as this is the antenna to your radio FM and DAB

Not a happy BMW customer

Sorry about rant but angry at the issue was

So to confirm: You broke your car, agreed to pay a main agent their quoted price for a repair, you were charged the agreed price and you are now angry because the job was more complex than you first realised?

I'm missing something? confused

Is there anything in the handbook about taking care when cleaning the glass?

Aerials on or in automotive glass is hardly a new thing. I think BMW has been doing it for at least 20 years.

Can you not just paint your window grid and then hammer some frozen sausages into the dog to stop it happening again?

Not sure why BMW are to blame

My experience of BMW dealers is mixed. Why should I have to wait 3 weeks to book in for a service? Why should I have to take the car to two different dealers to diagnose and fix a fault. Why can't I book my car in for a running in service within a month of taking delivery? Why won't you give me a price for the service just because my reg isn't on your system yet? Computer says no wkers, most of them.

BMW tried to charge my mum £500 to replace worn pads on her BMW's first service since ownership. She told them not to do it, but when I picked it up they still tried to push it on me. The pads might have been 80‰ worn at most.. Very disappointing. I wanted to point out that it was essentially theft... Didn't bother. I was about to purchase an M2, Lotus Exige on the drive instead with zero regrets. So far Lotus service has been far from what I was expecting. I lost my fuel cap and they replaced it for free including matching the barrel to my existing key. (hope your taking notes BMW)

BMW have locking filler FLAP, not locking fuel caps - so your point is?

I don’t think cars have had ‘running in’ services for decades.

I must be a lucky so-and-so because I don’t think I’ve had a bad experience with BMW dealers anywhere.

I even let the last one change all my tyres when they needed doing as they were cheaper than anyone else.

Weird but true.

20% doesn't last long.
Have they gone through to the metal yet ?

I work for one and they are just as bad with their employees as with their customers. Not restricted to BMW though. I worked at a Merc dealership and they were just as bad. In fairness, I bought a car from Dick Lovett in Hungerford and they were very good. I've had to threaten Small Claims to two other dealers after buying AUC cars before they sorted them.

The car is still under warranty but as it is damage I had to pay, no price was quoted

They are not to blame as far as the damage is but the cost to trace a damaged grid is the issue

The dog may like the sausages though
