Anyone replaced a flex disc/guibo and the cost I will be looking at from an indy?

Oops, E46. Don't have any ramps or axle stands so gonna be a real pig so I think it will have to be indy.

Sound like going over a rumble strip at certain speeds and the gearstick wobbles a bit at the same time. So assume the flex disc is the correct diagnosis?

Or prop center bearing or both

Is it worth doing both at the same time? Or just whichever one needs doing?

Sounds like shot engine/gearbox mounts.

When driveshaft bearing goes the driveshaft is spinning way off centre especially during hard acceleration. Bearing itself never fails but it's rubber mount does - you will hear banging noise coming from the rear of the driveshaft tunnel. If the flex disc goes there is a clunk when the the clutch is depressed Unless you have a torque monster both usually fail due to leaking gearbox output shaft seal - oil dripping over the rubber which then turns soft and starts to dissolve.

It seems to happen under lighter loads/slight inclines, and at different speeds in different gears. It seems to diminish under harder acceleration and will stop if coasting out of gear. A bit strange really.

Giubo FFS, NOT guibo. Grrrrh!
and thus pronounced Joo-bo
Not Gweebo

Anyway. Yes I had mine changed on an E36 some years ago. A straightforward job for an Indy. Not a job I would do unless I had a 2/4 poster lift.

I have just dug out a bill from 10 years ago. Done at a main BMW dealer, it was £220 total back then, of which £50 was for the coupling. Not sure what that would work out at now.

Yup; best to get an indy to do it. Source the donut yourself (Febi Bilstein is about as good as it gets and they're c£55 on eBay) and hopefully it'll be around an hours job, or so, for an indy with your car on the ramps.

It's deffo not a job I'd do on the drive with the car on stands etc

I did my E46 one with the car on axle stands and it was not a nice job at all. Not least because I couldn't get good leverage on the spanners and was always at the back of my mind if I'd tightened them up enough biggrin

Car is due a MOT soon so will try and kill 2 birds while its up on the ramp, and the MOT tester might be feeling a bit more generous knowing there some extra work whistle

I've done one on the ground, car on stands (big tall ones) one side only and with the exhaust still on. I took the complete prop off, rear exhaust down to get the heat shields out and get at the two 13mm centre mount bolts. Two hours of swearing. Undo both ends and thread it out past the exhaust - the downpipes nuts WILL be rusted to buggery and you don't want to get involved in that. Relace the centre prop mount at the same time.

I tried to crawl underneath it to take a look and it was too low to see anything, I think I have resigned myself to letting an indy sort it to save the scraped knuckles and swearing.
