640d Gran Coupe
Discussion
Hi all,
Still looking at options for the car I'm going to buy in the next few months and having had some luck that expands my finances somewhat, I stumbled across a BMW I didn't even really know about. The 6 series Gran coupe.
Having done some research most of the reviewers seems to love them, has anyone owned one and if so what experience have you had? What did you think of it?
Are their any extra's you would view as "essential" etc?
General thoughts pretty much.

Lovely cars and did 70k miles in one(coupe) in 3 years. They are pretty well specced as standard in fairness. I had the 20" wheels(run flats) but the ride was pretty punishing over rough tarmac so I'd recommend the 19" wheels instead.
The seat runners can rattle a bit so look out for that. Mine was faultless and it returned a very respectable 40 mpg overall. They do feel pretty big in car parks and the steering is pretty vague, but other than that I loved it to bits and still miss it.
They are one of the best looking Bmw's for me of recent times and their performance/economy mix are very appealing for sure.

Loved mine, which I had for nearly 3 years. Wish I still had it, in some respects. They are excellent value for money right now, I think.
I averaged around 38-40mpg typically in a 640d Gran Coupe. Relatively cheap car to run; servicing is infrequent and I didn’t have anything go wrong with it.
Watch out for wheel vibrations that can be felt through the seats or steering wheel around 70mph; this can indicate bent wheels (the F series cars seem to be sensitive to this sort of thing), so give it a good test drive.
Very comfy, go well and are a great place to chew up miles.
The not so good: steering is a bit lifeless, but that’s the case with a lot of cars these days. Alloys are easy to curb if you’re not careful, as it’s not always easy to determine where the corners are. That’s about it, really.
Good options are HUD, surround view camera (these are big cars!) and Harmon Kardon stereo, which sounds pretty good. I loved the comfort seats in mine too. There’s a fairly decent amount of kit on these as standard.
