Better half's car has reached end of its lease and needs to be returned. It is a 2016 BMW 320 Diesel. Problem is that she only has one key, which means I have lost the second key and am responsible for buying a replacement.

Having read forums stories, I hardly dare call a BMW dealer for a quote. Any ideas?

£200 plus vat at least, plus you will need logbook/driving licence and a utility bill.

Yup, that's the price, and a main dealer is pretty much your only option. On the plus side, it only takes a couple of days.

You won’t have ‘lost’ the key, it will be somewhere ‘safe’.

I was thinking. The dealer may advise, and it may be wise to have two new keys, and car synced to them. In case the original spare was stolen or fell into bad hands.

In terms of fobs, the missing one will get written out as the new one along with the existing one are relearnt.

Regarding the missing blade, as it’s going back, I’d of thought a new blade from the dealer would suffice.

If the car was a keeper and the blade had been lost locally, I’d be going for a barrel change.

It may not work for all brands - but I did hear the AA have a whole division of guys driving around supplying spare keys to people who have lost the originals.

Might be worth a try?

As soon as you buy it, the old one will turn up. £240 doesn't seem to horrendous...

Did we ever get an actual price for the replacement key and coding. I only ask I recently bought an older F30 and it only came with one key.

Be good to know if its a reasonable cost for a 2nd one.

You could always ring around your local dealer(s) and ask for current prices...and then come back and update the thread!

I say this, because it may make a difference to the price whether you have comfort access or not...and they'll probably use your VIN to work it out for you.

Just over £314 which includes the blade or £285 with no key blade.
