Evening,

My 3 series is going in for another warranty claim tomorrow, it's already had it's first service, approx 17 months old and done 21k miles, large proportion on the m/way.

Brakes have been very noisy since I got it, I've mentioned it every time I have taken it in and my dealers have shrugged their shoulders and said on inspection they seem fine. And that M-Performance brakes can be a bit noisy.

They do stop well at speed, but they're very bitey and in-consistent around town, I can put up with that but they are so loud now, it's embarrassing. There are plenty of other performance cars that don't make the amount of noise mine make.

I've uploaded the most boring motoring video you're ever likely to see (to send to the dealers) wondered if anyone else has had this experience? Is this just to be put up with or should I push for them to do something about it?

Cheers,

HBT

No issues with my 335d’s m-sport brakes. Never had a squeal, and yes, they are good stoppers. I am a light brake user, and not on and off the brakes all the time.

Mine squeak when I first start the car and am trying to pull out of my driveway. Once they are warmed up, they seem fine - but I recall others saying they were very prone to making noise.

Mine do the same. On 50k and stopping well so doesn’t bother me. Only squeal is on light braking só city driving is annoying but it’s probably a “feature”

Probably need tocaram the pads with some proper stops

I’m guessing that my M140 uses the same brakes; they squealed a bit when I first got the car but they’ve stopped now. It was only in very light braking.

There seem to be a few complaints over on BabyBMW of noisy brakes from 135/140 owners.

I am quite a heavy user, lots of narrow lanes here so any sprited driving means getting on the brakes a lot, but if the pads aren't worn, surely they're designed to be used for exactly that?

We'll see what BMW say today!

Thanks again.

Mine used to do it at slow speed - I found the solution was to find a quiet road without traffic, get to 60-70 and then do an emergency stop. After that, not a sound. I wonder if there's something in the pad compound that builds up on the discs under normal use and needs cleaning off now and then.

That’s pretty bad. Mine never sounded anything like that.
